Mage: The Gun Quarter
Nicholas Black made a lucky find in Samuel Singh‘s shop during a random visit there. An old statue carved of palm wood dating back to Captain Cook’s time appeared to house a slumbering spirit. Knowing that fetishes are rare objects, Nicholas purchased the item and brought it back to The Church of the First Blood to examine it. Unsure of the exact nature of the spirit within, Nicholas had Martin Vincent look into the objects past and they discovered that people tended to suffer violent ends while around the object. Nicholas constructed a ward around the object and woke the slumbering creature. It introduced itself as Ra’Tiki, and was somewhat dismayed to find that it had been asleep for so long. It detailed the deal it once held with its past master and asked that Nicholas set it free so that it may explore what has changed in the world. Nicholas said he would do that if the spirit wished but instead offered a counter proposal, that the spirit strike a similar deal with himself so that he might make use of the creature’s abilities. After some negotiation, the agreed payment for Ra’Tiki’s services are that once a month, Nicholas will provide an item of food that Ra’Tiki has not yet tasted, and that once a year, he will sacrifice a cat in Ra’Tiki’s honour.
Ra’Tiki is a rat spirit that was bound into an old statue that Nicholas has since transferred into an obsidian rat pendant. Ra’Tiki is unusually adept at finding the cracks in the gauntlet separating the spirit realms and lowers the difficulty of all umbral travel rolls by 2 in its immediate vicinity. It was because of this passive ability that many malevolent spirits managed to pierce the veil and cause mayhem on the mortal world around the object.
